Our mastery of manipulating DNA has evolved into an even more radical form of dabbling called "Synthetic Biology”.American biologist Craig Ventor announced in 2010 that he had created the world's first synthetic life form. Synthia, aka Mycoplasma mycoides JCVI-syn 1.0, was a cell whose genetic code had been assembled not by its parent, but by a computer.
