Techno was born in Berlin. And so was Nadja Auermann, the city’s most famous blond beauty and Helmut’s most Newtonesque face and figure. The hardcore electronic music revolution named Techno (who had ever heard of 140 beats per minute?) exploded onto a world stage, an audio blitzkrieg born in places like Tresor, a dank, blood red club located in a discarded department store on Potsdamer Platz. Berlin’s convoluted post-War history left the city riddled with cavernous and forgotten industrial plants, warehouses, cellars, banks and even ministries. The raw spaces almost demanding a new darker club scene and musical genre. Techno took an electronic twist in clubs like Berghain and Cookies, by now internationally renowned buzzwords – the Studio 54s of rave nation. Clubbing in Berlin is like entering a mysterious underworld where rules are off and everything goes. To celebrate Blonder Techno, Ralph Mecke club hopped Berlin, shooting Nadja in the depths of this subversive eroticism in some of the season’s sculptured chic, sinful lace and classy tuxedos.
